WHAT RANDGOLD RESOURCES – OUR GOLD MINE BUILDING CLIENT HAS TO SAY ABOUT US…
Randgold Resources is a gold focused mining and exploration business incorporated in the Channel Islands in 1995 and listed on the London Stock Exchange (RRS) in 1997 and on Nasdaq (GOLD) in 2002.
Major discoveries to date include the 7.5 million ounce Morila deposit in southern Mali, the 7 million plus ounce Yalea deposit at Loulo in western Mali and the 4 million plus ounce Tongon deposit in the Côte d'Ivoire as well as the 7 million ounces deposit at Gounkoto.
Randgold Resources financed and developed the Morila mine, which was commissioned in October 2000 and since then has produced approximately 4.85 million ounces of gold as well as distributing more than US$1.2 billion to its stakeholders.
It also financed and developed the Loulo project, which went into production in November 2005 with two open pit mines. Two underground mines are being developed on the site - the first, at the Yalea deposit, has started delivering ore to the plant and the second, at the Gara deposit, is also now operational. Construction of the Tongon mine commenced mid 2009 and first gold was poured at the mine in August 2010. Since then the mine has had uninterrupted operation (despite the political unrest that gripped the country from December 2010 to May 2011)
In June 2011 the Gounkoto mine commenced operation and the mined ore was hauled and processed through the Loulo plant.
In 2009 Randgold Resources (together with Anglo Gold as a partner) acquired the Kibali mining concession in northern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with commencement of construction activities starting in October 2011.
Randgold Resources has extensive exploration programmes in the major gold regions of Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and Tanzania.
Afrilog is an international company with extensive experience in supply chain management. Afrilog’s parent company (CSTTAO) has been in existence for in excess of 50 years. Afrilog is active in several West African countries including Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso and has recently established a branch in South Africa. It is specifically their knowledge of the West African business environment (a challenging environment to operate in) which is their distinct competitive advantage.
Over the past 14 years a partnership has existed between Randgold Resources and Afrilog in the sense that Afrilog at first transported all Randgold Resources’ road freight in West Africa, and then slowly expanded its capacity and expertise to the level where they now manage major portions of the supply chain for Randgold Resources including procurement, forwarding and shipping and road transport. This applies equally to construction and operational phases of the mines being served.
An appreciation for and identification with the client’s needs together with a passion to achieve excellence sets Afrilog in a league of its own as a service provider and serves to cement a relationship that has lasted for many years and will continue to do so.
